The Armed Forces Retirement Home presents an outstanding development opportunity on 80 acres in the heart of the nation’s capital. Just five miles from the U.S. Capitol, with views of the Capitol dome, the Home presents an outstanding opportunity for mixed use development in Washington with nearby educational institutions such as Catholic University, Howard University and Trinity Washington University; hospitals such as Children’s National Medical Center, the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Washington Hospital Center and the National Rehabilitation Hospital; and revitalizing neighborhoods such as Petworth and Columbia Heights.
The 2002 and 2010 National Defense Authorization Act provided AFRH with the authority to leverage the value of its real estate and use the proceeds to invest in its campus. AFRH intends to use its authority to enter into an agreement with a master developer that will develop the Development Area for private-sector use, providing AFRH with an alternative income stream.
AFRH is currently working with the General Services Administration (GSA) to issue a solicitation and select a master developer.
Please check back later for additional details about the solicitation process.
